A new level of excellence is born

The first World Restaurant Awards in Paris showcases culinary excellence as well as ethics, heritage, diversity, and originality. This annual Award complements our own ethos: a commitment to heritage crafts, rare breeds, and the people who help to preserve them.

As a proud partner of this red-carpet event and with our Market Plaza installation at the venue, we play a key role for the Awards.

Karsten Ottenberg, Gaggenau Partner Advisor
“The inaugural World Restaurant Awards honors those people who contribute only the best to our international culinary landscape, a principle that Gaggenau also espouses. We congratulate the winners in each category as well as everybody included on both the long list and short list. We look forward to developing our partnership with The World Restaurant Awards in 2019 and beyond.”

The event of the year

This gala evening of celebration – the international restaurant scene’s version of the Oscars – marks the beginning of a new benchmark in gastronomy. Guests enjoy an evening discovering new culinary geniuses and savoring exceptional cuisine, created using our induction cooktops, accompanied by fine wine and champagne in the opulent surroundings of the Palais Brongniart. Magnums of champagne and the Awards were bestowed on stage, in front of our wine climate cabinets.

Judges have made their decisions: restaurants, pop-ups, chefs, suppliers, novices, and the industry as a whole have had their futures changed.

The Market Plaza

Our Market Plaza installation at the Awards launches Respected by Gaggenau. This is our tribute to the people behind the scenes who provide the exceptional ingredients that great chefs rely upon. We look forward to supporting the producers and artisans who grow heritage grains, keep rare breeds, and use the traditional methods that yield the best quality.

Big names, new names

Big names, new names

As the Awards committee had an equal number of female and male judges, the categories were destined to be more reflective of the interests and expectations of today’s diners. A more open-minded appetite for both fine and humble cuisine as well as embracing the modern Instagram pages and the enduring trolley services of restaurants.

Yotam Ottolenghi, Ana Ros, Esben Bang, May Chow, and Daniel Humm are just a few of the big names judging both the established giants and new pop-ups. 18 categories encapsulate the culinary world of today – with everything from the House Special, a restaurant’s defining dish, to the light-hearted Tweezer-Free Kitchen, where appearance takes a back seat to taste.

The winners

A glamorous evening in Paris, a new benchmark of culinary achievement, geniuses revealed, and the next generation inspired: The World Restaurant Awards 2019 delivered on its promise to shake things up.
