The history of the castle dates back to the late 1600’s, although it has evolved over the years from a Georgian country house to a vast Victorian gothic castle with turrets and battlements, and the interiors reflect this with an exquisite Drawing Room that overlooks the croquet lawn and a magnificent Dining Room with ornate gold leaf ceiling and views over the parkland and fallow deer herd.

The Swinton Park Cookery School has been running cookery courses since 2003, and is well established as one of the best in the UK with chef Director Stephen Bulmer at the helm. The school offers a range of two day, one day and half day courses run every week with courses as varied as Flavours of the Orient, Regional French Cuisine and Stocks & Sauces. Located next to the hotel in the adjacent Georgian stable wing, it has been equipped to the highest specification with Gaggenau appliances at each of the six workstations (catering for up to 12 guests). Meals on cookery courses are served either in the demonstration kitchen or more formally in the Cookery School’s own dining room, where partners and friends are welcome to join the group for these meals. The large demonstration table is also the venue for Stephen’s highly popular Chef’s Table demonstration meals, where guests are entertained while their meal is cooked in front of them.
